For Today – Step Five -- Growth
STEP
FIVE: Is
the discipline of Confession.
STEP
FIVE: Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another
person the exact nature of our wrongs.
“Therefore
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other
so that you may be healed.”
--James 5:16a
"Once
we have taken this step, withholding nothing, we are
delighted. We
can look the world in the eye.
We can be alone at perfect peace and ease.
Our fears fall from us.
We begin to feel the nearness of our Creator.
We may have had certain spiritual beliefs, but
now we begin to have a spiritual experience.
The feeling that the drink problem has
disappeared will often come strongly.
We
feel we are on the Broad Highway, walking hand in hand
with the Spirit of the Universe."

What
we are usually afraid of in Step 5 is the fear of
rejection from others.
We know we have done such horrible things in our
addiction that surely we are the worst of the worst and
deserve the most severest rejection.
Not true, once we begin step 5 – we find that
others do understand what we did, they don’t judge,
they actually take our arms and guide us through.
Then we realize that God has been there all along
– waiting for us.
"Therefore
confess your sins to each other and pray for each other
so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and
effective."
--
James
5: 16
