JUST FOR TODAY! – Step One -- Control

STEP ONE -- Is about recognizing our brokenness.

I admitted I was powerless over the effects of my separation from GOD -- that my life has become unmanageable.

“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” --Romans 7:18

"Years before we realized it we were out of control, that our drinking even then was no mere habit, that it was indeed the beginning of a fatal progression.  To the doubters we could say, ‘Perhaps you're not addict after all.  Why don't you try some more controlled using/abusing, bearing in mind meanwhile what we have told you about addictions?’”

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional

**********************************

Control – Control – Control –what we spend most of our lives trying to do.  We think we are controlling our drug/alcohol – but if we are honest – we do get to the point that the drug/ alcohol is controlling us.  If you can picture a person walking a dog – substitute the dog for yourself and the person for your addiction - - it is leading us around the world and if we don’t soon begin to admit we are powerless over ______ then we will spiral down To death.

We are addicts and we can’t social drink/use – no matter how hard we try and convince ourselves.  Admit today, we are powerless – it is not a sign of weakness at all – it is a sign of strength - - you will be quite surprised at what you will find around the corner – God is waiting for you to reach up to Him – in and with Him ALL things ARE possible.

“When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, "Then who can be saved?"  And looking at them Jesus said to them, With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." -- Matthew 19: 25-27

First Step Prayer

Dear Lord,

STEP ONE -- Is about recognizing our brokenness.

I admitted I was powerless over the effects of my separation from GOD -- that my life has become unmanageable.

“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” -- Romans 7:18

I admit that my life is unmanageable when I try to control it

Help me this day to understand the true meaning of powerlessness

Remove from me all denial of my dependencies
