Concession
From "More about
Alcoholism:"
"The idea that somehow,
someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the
great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The
persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many
pursue it into the gates of insanity or death. "We
learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost
selves that we were alcoholics. This is the first step
in recovery."

The thought
that someday we can control our drinking is a lie
straight from the pit of hell. That lie or many of us
is the thing we keep holding on to and the very thing
that keeps us addicted. When we can understand the fact
that we are sick and we are addicts – then and only then
can God do His mighty miracle in us – beginning our
steps on the road to recovery.
"Indeed, the very hairs of
your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more
valuable than many sparrows. "And I say to you,
everyone who confesses Me before men, the Son of Man
will confess him also before the angels of God; but he
who denies Me before men will be denied before the
angels of God. – Luke 12: 7-9
First
Step Prayer
Dear
Lord,
STEP
ONE -- Is about recognizing our brokenness.
I
admitted I was powerless over the effects of my
separation from GOD -- that my life has become
unmanageable.
“I
know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful
nature. For
I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry
it out.” -- Romans 7:18
I
admit that my life is unmanageable when I try to control
it
Help
me this day to understand the true meaning of
powerlessness
Remove
from me all denial of my dependencies
