JUST FOR TODAY! – Step One -- Turnabout

STEP ONE -- Is about recognizing our brokenness.

I admitted I was powerless over the effects of my separation from GOD -- that my life has become unmanageable.

“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” -- Romans 7:18

"Why this insistence that every A.A. must hit bottom first? The answer is that few people will sincerely try to practice the A.A. program unless they have hit bottom. For practicing A.A.'s remaining eleven Steps means the adoption of attitudes and actions that almost no alcoholic who is still drinking can dream of taking."

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional

**********************************

Why the bottom?  Because when we reach the bottom, the only thing we can do it look up and see God.  The God who has patiently waited for us to reach up and ask for His presence to help us.  This is the beginning of a new life -- not just in recovery -- but in walking as a believer in the true God -- when we keep that focus -- recovery and sobriety will be the result.

We are powerless -- because He is Powerful!

More of Him, less of me -- that is the formula to success!

I love you, O LORD, my strength.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;

    my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.

    He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,

    and I am saved from my enemies.

The cords of death entangled me;

    the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.

The cords of the grave coiled around me;

    the snares of death confronted me.

In my distress I called to the LORD;

    I cried to my God for help.

  From his temple he heard my voice;

    my cry came before him, into his ears. -- Psalm 18:1-6

First Step Prayer

Dear Lord,

STEP ONE -- Is about recognizing our brokenness.

I admitted I was powerless over the effects of my separation from GOD -- that my life has become unmanageable.

“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” -- Romans 7:18

I admit that my life is unmanageable when I try to control it

Help me this day to understand the true meaning of powerlessness

Remove from me all denial of my dependencies
