JUST FOR TODAY! -- Step Two
--
Ego
STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in
us.
I believe that GOD, through Jesus Christ
and the Holy Spirit, will restore me to sanity.
“For it is GOD who works in you to will
and to act according to his good purpose.” --
Philippians 2:13.
STEP TWO PRAYER
God, I'm standing at the turning point of
my life right now.
I know in
my heart that only you can restore me to sanity.
I humbly
ask that you remove all
twisted
thought & addictive behavior from me this day.
Heal my
spirit & restore in me a clear mind.
Give me your protection and care as I
abandon myself to you
and for me to give-up my old ways
and forget my old ideas just for today.
AMEN
"How we loved to shout the
damaging fact that millions of the "good men of
religion" were still killing one another off in the name
of God. This all meant, of course, that we had
substituted negative for positive thinking. After we
came to AA, we had to recognize that this trait had been
an ego-feeding proposition. In belaboring the sins of
some religious people, we could feel superior to all of
them. Moreover, we could avoid looking at
some of our own shortcomings.
Self-righteousness, the very thing that we had
contemptuously condemned in others, was our own
besetting evil. …
"'As
psychiatrists have often observed, defiance is the
outstanding characteristic of many an alcoholic. So
it's not strange that lots of us have had our day at
defying God Himself.'"

How tolerant
we become of things, with the exception of one -- Faith
in Jesus, and the people of faith. We hear the word
‘Christian’ and it brings a bad-taste into their
mouths. We are taking the “people of faith’s inventory,
judging them and condemning them, without really knowing
them.
Why?
Because
their faith offends, their God offends.
To get
through the faith step, we must change our slanted
thinking -- our negative thinking into positive
thinking. We will defy ourselves into oblivion never
healing and becoming well.
Who are we
to think that the ‘religious’ are not trying, just like
me. Coming to faith is a process, not an instant event
-- we grow into it.
Just like
those ‘people of religion’ are growing into their faith
one step at a time.
We should
stop defying what is inevitable -- God is there, He is
the power to help us heal, he is the one who stands
waiting for us to soften. It is not about religion, it
is about faith, a personal relationship with Jesus, not
man’s religious practice, but a personal God named Jesus
who will walk with us every step of the way.
17
You
therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your
guard so that you are not carried away by the error of
unprincipled men and fall from your own
steadfastness,
18
but grow in
the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of
eternity. Amen. -- II Peter 3:17-18

Came to Believe
I cried a tear that came from my soul,
Please set me free, I said,
The doctor had already told the news,
That, soon I would be dead!
Why me, I screamed, this just can't be,
You know how hard I tried!
It must be someone else's fault,
When, to myself, I lied.
Just this one drink and not anymore,
I often was heard to say.
It worked a thousand times before,
So why not on this day?
My soul lay naked, I looked at myself
To see what I had done.
It started out so innocently,
It really looked like fun.
Reliving it now, as I look back,
I see it all was me.
I didn't like the person at all
That I had come to be.
The change came slowly,
one day at a time,
For this I had to pray,
The steps gave me a way of life,
I practice everyday !
