Wings Devotional Recovery ... March 11, 2009

The Month of March brings us to Step Three ... We will have Step Devotionals every Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday and sometimes on Mondays ... Tuesdays and Thursdays Sobriety Devotionals ...

JUST FOR TODAY! -- Step Three -- Action

STEP THREE: Involves a decision to let GOD be in charge of My Life.

I make a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of GOD through Jesus Christ

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of GOD’s  mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to GOD - which is your spiritual worship." -- Romans 12:1

Promise: We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.

Third Step Prayer~ (Page 63 - A. A. Big Book)

God, I offer myself to Thee

To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.

Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.

Take away my difficulties,

that victory over them may bear

witness to those I would help of Thy Power,

Thy Love and

Thy Way of life,

May I do Thy will always!

Step Three: Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

"In the first two Steps we were engaged in reflection.  We saw that we were powerless over alcohol, but we also perceived that faith of some kind, if only in AA itself, is possible to anyone.  These conclusions did not require action; they required only acceptance.

“…Step Three calls for affirmative action, for it is only by action that we can cut away the self-will which has always blocked the entry of God - or, if you like, a Higher Power - into our lives.”

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional

**********************************

The original word for faith in the Greek is Pistis - which is a word that is comprised of three parts - to know, to believe, to trust – to be prompt to action - not just a co-incidence that it is really our first three steps of the recovery program.  It is a God-incident!

Turning our will over to God is the wisest and the step that gets us serious on the road of recovery -- don't fight it - just do it and you will be amazed at the results -- the benefits are out of this world!

Read the entire chapter of Hebrews 11 - it is called the "Hall of Faith" and you will be encouraged by those that have their faith recorded.

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for.

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” -- Hebrews 11:1-3

Prayer of commitment to GOD:

Dear Jesus,

Thank YOU for making me and loving me,

even when I ignored you and gone my own way.

I realize I need You in my life

and I’m sorry for my past behavior.

I ask You to forgive me.

As much as I know how, I want to follow You from now on.

Please come into my life and

make me a new person inside.

I accept Your gift of salvation.

Please help me to grow now as a Christian.

Amen.

God, Take my will and my life. Guide me in my recovery.

Show me how to live. (the step on p. 59 BB)

AMEN
