Wings Devotional Recovery
... April 21, 2009
The Month of April brings us
to Step Four ... We will have Step Devotionals every
Monday and Friday and sometimes on Wednesday ...
Tuesdays and Thursdays is for Sobriety Devotionals ...
Involves Honest
Self-Examination.
There is a saying in the
Recovery program that recovery is a process, not an
event. The same can be said for this step -- more will
surely be revealed.

STEP FOUR: I Made a
searching and fearless moral inventory of myself.

From “When A.A. Came of
Age”:
"…There was a meeting on
‘AA in Institutions.’ The speakers took us on a journey
into what were once the two darkest pits in which the
alcoholic could suffer, the prison and the mental
hospital. We were told how a new hope and a new light
had entered these places of one-time darkness. Most of
us were astounded when we learned the extent of the AA
penetration as of 1957, with groups today in 265
hospitals and 335 prisons# throughout the world.
Formerly only about 20 per cent [sic] of the alcoholic
parolees from institutions and prisons ever made the
grade. But since the advent of AA, 80 per cent of these
parolees have found permanent freedom.”
[Footnote:]
#“In 2003 there are over 2,500 groups in correctional
facilities and more than 1,000 in treatment facilities
in the U.S. and Canada.”

Truth will
never be surpressed - no matter how hard people try.
Thus AA because of its success - because of its
spiritual emphasis will never be gone. Just like the
Greatest Story Ever Told -- Jesus Christ - God in the
form of Man came to this earth - to die, be buried and
be raised again for the sinners all of the sinners of
this world. A gift that is given freely - for us -- the
truth that will save your lives - walking the steps -
but asking Jesus into your lives to guide the way.
“Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to
the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by
breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of
the one to come.
But the gift is not like the
trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the
one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that
came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow
to the many! Again, the gift of
God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The
judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but
the gift followed many trespasses and brought
justification.” -- Romans 5:14-16
GOALS FOR STEP FOUR
· Describe a moral inventory.
· Write an inventory of
dishonesty and resentment.
· Write an inventory of
self-pity and false pride.
· Write an inventory of
criticism and destructive anger.
· Write an inventory of fear
and impatience.
·
When
writing your, inventory give specific examples for each
behavior and attitude.
·
Search
the Bible for how God views each behavior and how we are
to counteract the behavior through the examples in the
Bible.
·
Record
insights and Scripture references. Remember be honest.
God created you as you are and loves you
unconditionally.
· Remember that prayer before
I begin invites the LORD into this process with me and
will help me to see what areas GOD needs to cleanse in
me. Use my sponsor’s support, s/he is praying for me as
I go through this process.
· Not to be discouraged,
when it gets tough. Even when I feel like walking away
from the process, persevere,
in the
end,
you are healed.
Remember you are loved!

Fourth Step Prayer:
Dear God,
It is I who has made my life
a mess.
I have done it, but I cannot undo it.
My mistakes are mine & I
will begin a
searching & fearless moral inventory.
I will write down my wrongs,
but I will also include that which is good.
I pray for the strength to
complete the task.
Amen
