Wings Devotional Recovery
... April 21, 2009
The Month of April brings us
to Step Four ... We will have Step Devotionals every
Monday and Friday and sometimes on Wednesday ...
Tuesdays and Thursdays is for Sobriety Devotionals ...
Involves Honest
Self-Examination.
There is a saying in the
Recovery program that recovery is a process, not an
event. The same can be said for this step -- more will
surely be revealed.

JUST FOR TODAY! --
Maybe
From “The Man Who Mastered
Fear”:
"I was suddenly and
uncontrollably seized with the old, paralyzing panic.
The hospital had seemed so safe. Now I was in a strange
house, in a strange city, and fear gripped me … Panic,
confusion, and chaos were supreme ... Two coherent
thoughts came to the surface; one, a drink would mean
homelessness and death; two, I could no longer relieve
the pressure of fear by starting home, as was once my
habitual solution to this problem, because I no longer
had a home. Finally ... one clear thought came to me:
Try prayer. You can’t lose, and maybe God will help you
- just maybe, mind you ... I was willing to give Him a
chance, although with considerable doubt.
I got down on my knees … The
prayer I said was simple …’God, for eighteen years I
have been unable to handle this problem. Please let me
turn it over to you.’ “Immediately, a great feeling of
peace descended upon me, intermingled with a feeling of
being suffused with a great strength.”

The key words - prayer - simple -- immediately. The
things that God will provide - as it says for years
before recovery - i kept trying to handle to manipulate
to control. In recovery and during the inpatient
program - i was safe - but stepping out into the world -
i literally felt naked -- but then i asked God - in a
simple Prayer - God please I give it all to you -- and
the peace that does pass all understanding - came over
me - I learned that I was aligned right and the Holy
Spirit that was sent to help me get through this was in
my being and I had his power to make it work.
“These are the men who
divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not
have the Spirit.
But you, dear friends,
build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in
the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you
wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you
to eternal life.” -- Jude 19-20
GOALS FOR STEP FOUR
· Describe a moral inventory.
· Write an inventory of
dishonesty and resentment.
· Write an inventory of
self-pity and false pride.
· Write an inventory of
criticism and destructive anger.
· Write an inventory of fear
and impatience.
·
When
writing your, inventory give specific examples for each
behavior and attitude.
·
Search
the Bible for how God views each behavior and how we are
to counteract the behavior through the examples in the
Bible.
·
Record
insights and Scripture references. Remember be honest.
God created you as you are and loves you
unconditionally.
· Remember that prayer before
I begin invites the LORD into this process with me and
will help me to see what areas GOD needs to cleanse in
me. Use my sponsor’s support, s/he is praying for me as
I go through this process.
· Not to be discouraged,
when it gets tough. Even when I feel like walking away
from the process, persevere,
in the
end,
you are healed.
Remember you are loved!

Fourth Step Prayer:
Dear God,
It is I who has made my life
a mess.
I have done it, but I cannot undo it.
My mistakes are mine & I
will begin a
searching & fearless moral inventory.
I will write down my wrongs,
but I will also include that which is good.
I pray for the strength to
complete the task.
Amen
