Wings Devotional Recovery
... April 28, 2009
The Month of April brings us
to Step Four ... We will have Step Devotionals every
Monday and Friday and sometimes on Wednesday ...
Tuesdays and Thursdays is for Sobriety Devotionals ...
Involves Honest
Self-Examination.
There is a saying in the
Recovery program that recovery is a process, not an
event. The same can be said for this step -- more will
surely be revealed.

Just for Today -- Action
From “When AA Came of Age”:
"Some of us could retell
tales that had been told in Dr. Bob’s living room ... We
could recall Anne [Mrs. Bob] as she sat in the corner by
the fireplace, reading from the Bible the warning of
James, that ‘faith without works is dead.’”

Just for Today -- A Daily
Devotional
**********************************
We are definitely saved as
a gift from God - we can do nothing to earn it - it is
freely given for all mankind – and it applies to us when
we believe. But what is that works thing? Works are
the evidence of our faith and to those of us in recovery
- works is the thing that keeps us recovering working
the steps - attending meetings - calling our sponsor
each day -- and first of all - relying on the Power of
God - daily communicating with Him in prayer, study of
His Word and meditation on his word.
Faith without works - -
means we are dead -- spiritually and
to many of us physically.
“What use is it, my
brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no
works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister
is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one
of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and be
filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary
for {their} body, what use is that? Even so faith, if
it has no works, is dead, {being} by itself. But
someone may {well} say, "You have faith and I have
works; show me your faith without the works, and I will
show you my faith by my works." You believe that God is
one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow,
that faith without works is useless? -- James 2: 14-20
GOALS FOR STEP FOUR
· Describe a moral inventory.
· Write an inventory of
dishonesty and resentment.
· Write an inventory of
self-pity and false pride.
· Write an inventory of
criticism and destructive anger.
· Write an inventory of fear
and impatience.
·
When
writing your, inventory give specific examples for each
behavior and attitude.
·
Search
the Bible for how God views each behavior and how we are
to counteract the behavior through the examples in the
Bible.
·
Record
insights and Scripture references. Remember be honest.
God created you as you are and loves you
unconditionally.
· Remember that prayer before
I begin invites the LORD into this process with me and
will help me to see what areas GOD needs to cleanse in
me. Use my sponsor’s support, s/he is praying for me as
I go through this process.
· Not to be discouraged,
when it gets tough. Even when I feel like walking away
from the process, persevere,
in the
end,
you are healed.
Remember you are loved!

Fourth Step Prayer:
Dear God,
It is I who has made my life
a mess.
I have done it, but I cannot undo it.
My mistakes are mine & I
will begin a
searching & fearless moral inventory.
I will write down my wrongs,
but I will also include that which is good.
I pray for the strength to
complete the task.
Amen
