JUST FOR TODAY! -- Truth
From "Being wary of drinking occasions:"
"Great numbers of us (but not all)
believe that the sooner we establish the truth with our
acquaintances, the better it is for us. We do not have
to keep up any pretenses, and most good people
appreciate our honesty and encourage our efforts to stay
free of our addiction. Saying aloud to other people
that we do not drink helps greatly to strengthen our own
determination to stay sober. And there may be a
by-product: Occasionally, we find that making such a
statement encourages someone else present who also needs
or wants not to drink."

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional

When I
first entered into this program, I began telling
everyone that I was a drunk and recovering. I then
became accountable to all who knew me. Brutal honesty -
- I don’t mean tattooing “addict” across our forehead,
but I do believe we should never deny the fact that is
who we are. The “normal” people would often try to tell
me I couldn’t be that bad -- tried to encourage me to
drink at times, but I firmly had to state that I do not
drink. We must always remember that God never Condemns
us, not when we drank, nor when we are sober.
I try to
reason why we are fearful to tell others we don’t drink,
I guess it is feeling of rejection. But the truth is,
there can be conviction if someone else is present who
needs to hear those words of not wanting to drink. It
may be the strength they need to hear -- that will help
them to make a healthy choice of saying no.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear
him;
he hears their cry and saves them. -- Psalm
145:18-19
Trust in the LORD with all
your heart
and lean not on your own
understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will direct your paths.
Proverbs 3, 5-6
