JUST FOR TODAY! -- First Step
STEP ONE -- Is about recognizing our
brokenness.
We admitted we were powerless over the
effects of our separation from GOD - that our lives had
become unmanageable.
I know nothing good lives in me, that is,
in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what
is good, but I cannot carry it out. --Romans 7:18
From "Remembering that alcoholism is an
incurable, progressive, fatal disease:"
"Instead of persisting in drinking, we
prefer to figure out, and use, enjoyable ways of living
without alcohol.
"We need not be ashamed that we have a
disease. It is no disgrace. No one knows exactly why
some people become alcoholics while others don't. It is
not our fault. We did not WANT to become alcoholics.
We did not TRY to get this illness ... The first step
toward feeling better, and getting over our sickness, is
quite simply not drinking."

Replacement – we need to figure out how
to do things alcohol/drug free -- Our lives have become
filled in sick behavior – we didn’t desire to become
addicted – but our illness spiraled into a destructive
sickness – and we have to remove the thing that is
making us sicker - - our “drug/behavior” of choice.
That is the first step – simply not
‘using’. And from that point on it is one day at a
time. It is as if we have to learn to walk, talk, eat
and function all over again.
“Righteousness and justice are the
foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.
Blessed are those who have learned to
acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD.
They rejoice in your name all day long;
they exult in your righteousness” -- Psalm 89:14-16
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths
straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your
bones. -- Proverbs 3:5-8
