Just
for Today! – Unmanageability ...
Step One: We admitted we
were powerless over
alcohol – that our lives had become unmanageable.
"Upon entering AA we soon
take quite another view of this absolute humiliation.
We perceive that only through utter defeat are we able
to take our first steps toward liberation and strength.
Our admissions of personal powerless finally turn out to
be firm bedrock upon which happy and purposeful lives
may be built."

Labels - something we all
avoid - especially words like 'alcoholic, drug addict,
gambler,' etc. We all walk into our first meeting with
the thought, 'I am not like those people'; and we often
fight the first step, not willing to admit we are
powerless over that '________' (fill in your addiction).
But the reality is that we are not like
those people in the AA meetings, because those people
are the ones that are doing something about their
unmanageable lives and the longer we fight Step One - we
will never built a base upon which to recover.
Humiliating yes - we must humbly approach
this problem of addiction in our lives and admit that we
are powerless, and once we do, then God will begin a
good work in us, perfecting it continually until His
return.
“5 - in view of your
participation in the gospel from the first day until
now.
6For
I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a
good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ
Jesus.
7For
it is only right for me to feel this way
about you all, because I have you in my heart, since
both in my imprisonment and in the defense
and confirmation of the gospel, you all are
partakers of grace with me”
-- Philippians 1:5-7
