JUST FOR TODAY! -- Company

From "Tolerance Keeps Us Sober:"

"Honesty with ourselves and others gets us sober, but it is tolerance that keeps us that way.  "In other words, once an alcoholic fully realizes that he can't get well alone, he will somehow find a way to get well and stay well in the company of others.  It has been that way from the beginning of AA and probably always will be so."

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional

**********************************

Company – being in the midst of “like-minded” folks helps us to have strength – it increases our strength – it helps us to stay well.  Support is what it has always been about – we are supported by the power of the Lord Jesus and we are supported by the extensions of His Love – our recovery group – our sponsor – our peers.  Relationships that deepen over time.

Don’t recover without it!  Like a tree that is facing a storm, If the roots are not many and deep then when the winds come the tree will be blown over.  With many deep roots the tree can withstand the winds that come against it.  We too, can stand when temptations come to us because our roots, our support orchestrated all by our God -- is there to hold us up.

“Two are better than one, because they
have a good reward for their toil.
For if they fall, one will lift up the other;
but woe to one who is alone and falls
and does not have another to help”
-- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

First Step Prayer

Dear Lord,

STEP ONE -- Is about recognizing our brokenness.

I admitted I was powerless over the effects of my separation from GOD -- that my life has become unmanageable.

“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” -- Romans 7:18

I admit that my life is unmanageable when I try to control it

Help me this day to understand the true meaning of powerlessness

Remove from me all denial of my dependencies

Additional Scriptures to help me understand what the Word of God say about admitting the unmanageability of our lives,

·             Matthew 9:36

·             Romans 7:18-20

·             Psalm 6:2-4

·             Psalm 31:9-10

·             Psalm 38:1-9

·             Psalm 44:15, 16

·             Psalm 72:12, 13
