Just For Today! -- Self-Concern
From "'Selfish?'"
"Some AA speakers say, 'AA
is a selfish program.' The word 'selfish' ordinarily
implies that one is acquisitive, demanding, and
thoughtless of the welfare of others. Of course, the AA
way of life does not at all imply such undesirable
traits.
"If we cannot or will not
achieve sobriety, then we become truly lost, right in
the here and now … Therefore, our own recovery and
spiritual growth have to come first -- a right and
necessary kind of self-concern."

For many
of us, we become also co-dependent on those we love. We
then begin to live our lives around our co-dependent
“other”, which means we lose the concentration of OUR
recovery. Sometimes, that is well planned, but most of
the time we just get plain lost in the insanity.
We must get selfish and begin to see what
is healthy for our recovery and what we need to do to
get well.
If we do not, we do not recover, we stay
in the sickness we have been dying in.
Proverbs 25:28
Like a city whose walls are broken down
is a man who lacks self-control.
STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in
us.
I believe that GOD, through Jesus Christ
and the Holy Spirit, will restore me to sanity.
“For it is GOD who works in you to will
and to act according to his good purpose.” --
Philippians 2:13.
STEP TWO PRAYER
God, I'm standing at the
turning point of my life right now.
I know in my heart that only you can
restore me to sanity.
I humbly ask that you remove all
twisted thought & addictive behavior from
me this day.
Heal my spirit & restore in me a clear
mind.
Give me your protection and
care as I abandon myself to you
and for me to give-up my old
ways
and forget my old ideas just
for today.
AMEN
