Just For Today -- Faith

STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in us.

I  believe that GOD, through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, will restore me to sanity.

“For it is GOD who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” -- Philippians 2:13.

"When we encountered AA, the fallacy of our defiance was revealed. At no time had we asked what God’s will was for us; instead we had been telling Him what it ought to be.  No man, we saw, could believe in God and defy Him, too.  Belief meant reliance, not defiance.  In AA we saw the fruits of this belief: men and women spared from alcohol’s final catastrophe.

We saw them meet and transcend their other pains and trials.

We saw them calmly accept impossible situations, seeking neither to run nor to recriminate.

This was not only faith; it was faith that worked under all conditions.

We soon concluded that whatever price in humility we must pay, we would pay.'"

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional

**********************************

Many of us in recovery have no concept of who God is.  Some of us have a history of ‘religion’ but for most of us that was not personal, nor memorable, and even sometimes down right hurtful.

When we get to Step 2 – coming to believe in God who is greater than we are and who can restore us to a sane state, we find it very difficult to accept.  In active addiction we are very independent in our choices, we think we are the wisest person out there and have no need of anyone or any God to be sure.  Well, with that attitude, we soon get our lives into a place where we are at bottom and can only look upwards -- that is when we see the beauty of God, the Greater Power.  Once we do see him, we cannot defy Him.  We see it is not about a religion, but it is about a relationship with Him.

He is something that care for us, that is personal to us and who will guide us along this recovery path – growing us more and more into His image with each step.

The problem before this realization was our pride, the only way to see Him and to allow Him to work in us is to practice humility and make it who we are.

Proverbs 8:12-14 (New International Version)

12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence;
 I possess knowledge and discretion.

13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil;
 I hate pride and arrogance,
 evil behavior and perverse speech.

14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
 I have understanding and power.

STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in us.

STEP TWO PRAYER

God, I'm standing at the turning point of my life right now.

I know in my heart that only you can restore me to sanity.

I humbly ask that you remove all

twisted thought & addictive behavior from me this day.

Heal my spirit & restore in me a clear mind.

Give me your protection and care as I abandon myself to you

and for me to give-up my old ways

and forget my old ideas just for today.

AMEN
