JUST FOR TODAY! -- Baffling

from: "More about Alcoholism"

"For those who are unable to drink moderately the question is how to stop altogether ... Many of us felt that we had plenty of character.  There was a tremendous urge to cease forever.  Yet we found it impossible.  This is the baffling feature of alcoholism as we know it - this utter inability to leave it alone, no matter how great the necessity or the wish."

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional

**********************************

Moderately drinking/using -- what exactly is that?  How do we measure that?  The truth is there is no such thing for us.  The thing that we can never answer is why we find it impossible to leave it alone or why we cannot take one drink and be done with it.

So what we need to do is get to the realization that we can’t use moderately -- there is no such thing for us.  Complete abstinence -- working the program – and above all else -- being in the Word of God and releasing all to Him.  If we rely on God -- we will no longer find it baffling, we will find that we are recovering.

“Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.  Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. -- I Peter 2:11-12

STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in us.

I  believe that GOD, through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, will restore me to sanity.

“For it is GOD who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” -- Philippians 2:13.

STEP TWO PRAYER

God, I'm standing at the turning point of my life right now.

I know in my heart that only you can restore me to sanity.

I humbly ask that you remove all

twisted thought & addictive behavior from me this day.

Heal my spirit & restore in me a clear mind.

Give me your protection and care as I abandon myself to you

and for me to give-up my old ways

and forget my old ideas just for today.

AMEN
