Just For Today – Abnormal
From “There Is a Solution”:
"How many times people have
said to us: 'I can take it or leave it alone.
Why can't he?’ ‘
Why don't you drink like a
gentleman or quit?'
'That fellow can’t handle
his liquor.’
‘Why don't you try beer and
wine?’
‘Lay off the hard stuff.’
‘His will power must be
weak.’
‘He could stop if he wanted
to.’
‘She's such a sweet girl, I
should think he'd stop for her sake.’
‘The doctor told him that if
he ever drank again it would kill him, but there he is
all lit up again.’
“Now these are commonplace
observations on drinkers which we hear all the time.
Back of them is a world of ignorance and
misunderstanding. We see that these expressions refer
to people whose reactions are very different from ours."

One of the first mandates of
recover is to seek a group and a sponsor that has been
there. What does that exactly mean?
Well from the above statements from those
that have never experienced addiction, we can see that
they are shallow and that the people never really can
understand what an addict goes through. These reactions
will only allow us to live in addiction once again over
and over again, with no hope of sobriety.
We need the hard cold facts of stories
from those who have walked our paths, who can somewhat
understand what we are going through, someone that will
love us enough to tell us the truth no matter how hard
it hurts. And to most importantly tell us what worked
for them and remind us daily of where they came from,
showing us that it is possible, when we die to our
desires and allow God to come in and show us the way.
Seek out an addiction recovery group
today, seek a sponsor who has finished his/her steps one
time. Those are the serious ones, those are the support
God wants you near.
Proverbs 27:17-19
17
As iron sharpens iron,
so one man sharpens another.
18
He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,
and he who looks after his master will be honored.
19
As water reflects a face,
so a man's heart reflects the man.
STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in
us.
I believe that GOD, through Jesus Christ
and the Holy Spirit, will restore me to sanity.
“For it is GOD who works in you to will
and to act according to his good purpose.” --
Philippians 2:13.
STEP TWO PRAYER
God, I'm standing at the
turning point of my life right now.
I know in my heart that only you can
restore me to sanity.
I humbly ask that you remove all
twisted thought & addictive behavior from
me this day.
Heal my spirit & restore in me a clear
mind.
Give me your protection and
care as I abandon myself to you
and for me to give-up my old
ways
and forget my old ideas just
for today.
AMEN
