JUST
FOR TODAY! -- Abstention
From "Staying away from the first drink:"
"Expressions commonly heard in A.A. are 'If you don't
take that first drink, you can't get drunk' and 'One
drink is too many, but twenty are not enough.'
"Doctors who are experts on alcoholism
tell us that there is a sound medical foundation for
avoiding the first drink. It is the first drink which
triggers, immediately or some time later, the compulsion
to drink more and more until we are in drinking trouble
again."

Just for Today -- A Daily Devotional
**********************************
It is an
age old cycle -- you drink, you regret, you repent, you
hurt, you drink….
Triggers – are something that we list
when we recover and we should avoid them when we work on
recovery. We never loose the memory or the feeling,
that the first drink/use – brings, I should say, we
think we remember.
It’s like the first time we sin, we are
devastated, then the second time, it gets a little
easier to sin, then the third time, then the fourth.
So it’s very easy to stay away from our
trigger –
DON’T TAKE THE FIRST DRINK/DRUG
Do what you are supposed to do!!! --
“Don't you know that when you offer
yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are
slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves
to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which
leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that,
though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly
obeyed the form of teaching to which you were
entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have
become slaves to righteousness. -- Romans 6:16-18
STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in
us.
I believe that GOD, through Jesus Christ
and the Holy Spirit, will restore me to sanity.
“For it is GOD who works in you to will
and to act according to his good purpose.” --
Philippians 2:13.
STEP TWO PRAYER
God, I'm standing at the
turning point of my life right now.
I know in my heart that only you can
restore me to sanity.
I humbly ask that you remove all
twisted thought & addictive behavior from
me this day.
Heal my spirit & restore in me a clear
mind.
Give me your protection and
care as I abandon myself to you
and for me to give-up my old
ways
and forget my old ideas just
for today.
AMEN
