Just For Today – Self-Importance
From "My Name Is Jan, and I’m an Addict":
"Often, I suspect that pride
kills as many addicts as the addiction does. Ask for
help? What an idea! The day came when my pride was
squashed flat (temporarily), and I did call for help. I
called on people - strangers. But my pride, expanding
as health returned, blocked my first two approaches to
Recovery
After one more failure to
regain my skill as a shadow addict, I was convinced, and
I began my Recovery Journey membership in earnest."

Self importance - pride - very dangerous
words. We we cannot see ourselves clearly and when we
think we are different then those addicts in recovery,
then we will never be able to see our way sober.
God, even humbled Himself to come to this
earth to sacrifice for all mankind, because we could not
get it. We needed a Savior, and God loved us so much to
provide that.
Until we can allow our pride to be
smashed, until we can die to ourselves and our agendas,
until we can see ourselves for what and who we are, in
need of help, in need of God, in need of support and
accountability ... in need of spiritual sobriety, we
will be hopelessly lost in the cycle of addiction and
death.
We will never be social 'users'; we will
never have the power to gain sobriety, we will always be
in need of the support of God, friends and our recovery
group, until our time on earth is over.
Stay humble, call for help, expose who
you are -- get the help you need today.
“5Your
attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6Who,
being in very nature[a]
God,
did not consider equality with God something to be
grasped,
7but
made himself nothing,
taking the very nature[b]
of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8And
being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9Therefore
God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10that
at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and
every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.” -- Philippians 2:5-11
STEP TWO: Is about the birth of faith in
us.
I believe that GOD, through Jesus Christ
and the Holy Spirit, will restore me to sanity.
“For it is GOD who works in you to will
and to act according to his good purpose.” --
Philippians 2:13.
STEP TWO PRAYER
God, I'm standing at the
turning point of my life right now.
I know in my heart that only you can
restore me to sanity.
I humbly ask that you remove all
twisted thought & addictive behavior from
me this day.
Heal my spirit & restore in me a clear
mind.
Give me your protection and
care as I abandon myself to you
and for me to give-up my old
ways
and forget my old ideas just
for today.
AMEN
